The Instrumentation and Controls Engineer's function is to ensure proper procurement and design the instrumentation and controls for an Elliott Group rotating equipment package. In addition to these technical roles, this Engineer is also responsible for the project schedules, budget, time management and communication with external customers as the primary technical interface for Elliott’s Project Team.


Expected travel is typically minimal (10-15%) and could include weekend and international travel.


The position level and commensurate salary is dependent on experience.


  • Manage overall design, procurement and testing of control systems and instrumentation while also resolving technical matters to allow for successful execution of the contract for assigned projects from completion of the Proposal stage through order Execution and final delivery.
  • Successfully execute and manage multiple unique projects of various complexities within a pre-defined budget, scope and schedule.
  • Create and coordinate control system documentation designed to customer specifications and industrial standards (related to the Petrochemical and Oil & Gas industries).
  • Work with both external suppliers and internal design team to ensure that the electrical, instrumentation and control system design meet customer requirements, Elliott and industry standards.
  • Identify project risks associated with cost and schedule impacts during design and execution phase, and work with the project team, suppliers and customer to reach resolution.
  • Participate and provide technical expertise in various customer meetings through the project life cycle.
  • Promote a positive attitude and safe and healthy work environment.
  • Ensure Elliott’s high standard for overall quality is maintained throughout each project.
  • Keep management and project team informed of the project status in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Adhere to the Project Engineering work processes and procedures to achieve department goals.
  • Actively participate in programs to support (and develop) continuous improvement initiatives.


Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or other related discipline. Equivalent relevant work experience will be considered.


Work Experience and Competencies:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience; four (4) plus years preferred.
  • Experience interpreting hardware interfaces based on reviewing wiring schematics, P&ID’s, and data sheets.
  • Experience creating a Control System Architecture, I/O list and Narrative based on defined mechanical design.
  • Above average verbal and written communications skills with a demonstrated ability to interface across different cultural lines.
  • Excellent computer skills with MS Office and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability through managing sub-suppliers and customer interaction.
  • Fundamental understanding for various PLC platforms, associated hardware and software.
  • Exhibits desire for continuous improvement, continuous education, training, and personal development.
  • Possesses good basic work habits, promptness, and dependability.
  • Self-directed worker, with good work ethic.
  • Disciplined, able to follow directions and procedures.
  • Maintains a professional and business like behavior.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to a dynamic work environment.
  • Developed time management skills with an ability to balance multiple technical projects simultaneously.
