Skilled Trade


To perform all of the required layout, machining, sub-assembly, part dimensional checking to verify conformance to drawings, sketches, etc.

Tools and equipment:

To set-up and operate various machines and equipment to produce parts and sub-assemblies. Some of them are as follows: Layout Machines, vertical boring mills – manual and n/c controlled, horizontal boring mills, planer milling machines, measuring devices, hand tools, jib hoist, overhead crane, fork lift trucks, pedestal tool grinders, deburring tools, fixtures, radial drill press and angular drill press, manual vertical boring mills, personal computer etc.



  1. Receives instructions from supervision
  2. Works from and interprets prints, drawings, work order books, makes sketches as required
  3. Obtains drawings, tools and fixtures from the tool crib
  4. Obtains necessary material from stock
  5. Lays out castings, forgings, plate fabrications, machined parts, etc
  6. Lays out, marks and center punches on material at proper dimensions for angles, radii, tapers, bolt circles, etc.
  7. Paints guide lines, dimension figures and instructions on material so that following operations may be performed accurately
  8. Stencils or stamps part for identification
  9. May be required to go into other areas for layout work
  10. Sets up machines by installing and adjusting tools, clamps and fixtures, positions and aligns part and setting proper feeds and speeds
  11. Inserts tape or operates machine manually as required
  12. Presses proper buttons to initiate tape control cycle.
  13. Perform the required machining operations
  14. Assembles and dissembles as required
  15. Monitors required spindle speed
  16. Verifies accuracy of micrometers as required
  17. Checks part with measuring devices as required
  18. Checks part to ensure that operation is completed
  19. Completes data sheets as required
  20. Deburrs all areas that were machined
  21. Submits parts for inspection as required
  22. Performs miscellaneous deburring operations simultaneously with machine operations as required
  23. Uses grinding attachments as required
  24. Grinds tools from blanks
  25. Adjusts, changes and dresses tools as required
  26. Operates tap disintegrator as required
  27. Uses hoist and crane as required
  28. Uses fork lift truck to obtain and move materials as required
  29. Performs crane hooking and unhooking as required
  30. Works from ladders and scaffolds
  31. Lubricates machine as required, wipes and oils machine ways and keeps machine tools and work area clean
  32. Performs routine preventive maintenance on machines
  33. Maintains good housekeeping by keeping tools, material and equipment in proper place and work area organized
  34. Reports defective material and equipment to supervision
  35. Observes all safety rules
  36. Reports production count, time and identifying data as required.


Five plus years of experience and adept at manual and CNC machining ferrous and non-ferrous materials using, vertical and horizontal lathes, milling machines, turrets and grinders.

Must be able to read mechanical drawings and set-up machines in accordance to customer / engineering specifications.

Prior machining of rotating equipment components preferred.

Skilled Trade certification or Journeyman papers are preferred. Qualified veterans with mechanical system operating and repair experience encouraged to apply.
