  • Overview

    Directs drafting resources in all activities required to convert engineering specifications into manufacturing and customer drawings within company policies, standards, and procedures.

    Responsibilities

    • Supervises and directs employees in the preparation and issuance of layouts, drawings, and parts list required to convert engineering specifications into detail and assembly drawings for manufacturing. Also, the conversion of customer specifications into customer drawings.
    • Supervises employees in the initiation and control of forms required to satisfy the responsibilities of the Drafting department in the related systems and procedures.
    • Plans and schedules the work efforts of employees to insure adherence to established schedules.
    • Analyze the group workload and submits reports and recommendations for revised staffing levels.
    • Aids employees in analyzing and estimating drafting time required to complete projects, shop orders and drawings. Submits requests for revisions of scheduled events estimates when required.
    • Coordinates, expedites, and directs the flow of inter-group and inter-departmental information to assure that jobs proceed on schedule.
    • Informs and collaborates with manager on schedule, personnel or other problems, which arise.
    • Reviews new techniques in drafting and design and recommends any changes which would result in increased efficiency, cost improvements, or improvement in quality of workmanship.
    • Keeps drafting personnel informed on all systems, procedures, company policies latest machine designs and any other general information that would promote common methods and improved efficiency.
    • Conducts performance reviews of employees in a manner that is beneficial to the employee as well as to the company.
    • Submits periodic reports for his group.
    • Reviews scrap and rework tags for drafting responsibility and take the necessary action.
    • Develops subordinates through training and motivation to increase their effectiveness and personal growth
    • Recommends salary changes and promotions within the group in a fair and equitable manner.
    • Maintain a high level of employee morale by promptly and effectively handling personnel problems.
    • Promotes and submits cost improvement ideas.

     

    Additional responsibilities:

     

    • Directs drafting resource in all activities required to convert engineering specification into manufacturing and customer drawings.
    • Controls work flow through assignments in order to maintain all schedule requirements.
    • Develops and implements new procedures to enhance group productivity and quality.
    • Monitors employee performance on all activities in order to provide opportunities to increase groups and process effectiveness (knowing each employee's strength to make most effective work assignments within group).
    • Provides product design expertise to all team and continuous improvement activities.
    • Controls design parameters when possible to enhance standardization of product line.

    Qualifications

    • Associate degree in Mechanical Design or Drafting Technology with 8+ years’ drafting experience or Bachelor degree in Engineering with at least 5 years' design experience.
    • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
    • Product line knowledge in Compressors, Steam Turbines and Expanders.
    • Knowledge of drafting standards, company systems and procedures.
