  • Overview

    The Senior Methods Engineer is responsible for a range of activities pertaining to departmental machining operations. Directs and controls activities such as CAD/CAM interface and CNC programming.


    This position is responsible for directing, coordinating and controlling the activities of a multi-functional department. Additional responsibilities include bargaining unit employee staffing recommendations, participating in the development and execution of training program(s), development of new manufacturing processes which reduce cost, improve quality, and reduce lead-times, control department budgets, develop short and medium term production schedules, directing bargaining unit personnel, and development of a team approach to operating the department.


    • Maintains program backlog to support Production Schedule.
    • Initiates methods to control efficiency levels of machining operations. Takes necessary action to ensure products are produced at lowest possible cost and in shortest lead time.
    • Creates monitoring procedures to control scrap and rework costs. Manages quality issues through Root Cause Corrective Action System and employee recommendations.
    • Generates CNC Programs required for departmental production, and assists in development of CNC Programming posts.
    • Assists Product Engineering in resolving quality, manufacturing and design issues.
    • Participates in the development and modification of new fixtures and tooling.
    • Oversees cross training opportunities within department.
    • Participates in capital planning and execution/installation efforts.
    • Initiates methods to monitor and control product costs of critical path component parts.
    • Participates in development of plant layout changes for areas of responsibility.



    • Degree in Manufacturing Technology preferred; a diploma from a technical discipline as a minimum.
    • Ten years of experience in manufacturing, manufacturing processes, shop floor control, and graphics-based CNC programming.
    • MasterCam and/or Gibbs Cam experience required.   Preferred experience in any of the following software: AutoCad, Vericut, Solid Works.


    Additional skills required would include the ability to motivate and administrate bargaining unit personnel and possess good communication skills as well as analytical capabilities and problem solving techniques.
