  • Overview

    Perform fitting and welding functions for the installation, maintenance and repair of all types of pipe lines required in plant maintenance or construction and pipe, material and apparatus in the pipe shop, steam turbine and compressor test areas, test stands and shipping requirements.

     

    This position would train on first shift, then switch to either 2nd or 3rd shift.

    Responsibilities

    • Receives guidance and direction from supervisor.
    • Works from work order book, detailed drawings or instructions on material or makes sketches as required.
    • Prepares material for welding and assembly including cutting, bending, edge prep, chipping, grinding and cleaning weldments.
    • Lays out work to allow for shearing, bending, welding and shrinkage. Also fit all spools for preassembly welding, working from isometric sketches.
    • Heats, straightens and bends material as required.
    • Obtains correct welding materials and sets up and operates manual, automatic and semiautomatic welding machines as required within the Fab Cell.
    • Observes all safety rules and general housekeeping related to equipment, materials and cleaning of work area.

    Qualifications

    • At least 2 years of pipe welding experience.
    • High school diploma or Equivalent and/or Trade School diploma.
    • Requires the ability to use considerable mechanical aptitude and judgement to determine proper welding and assembly practices and to regulate amperage output, bending/forming of various types of metal.
    • Must use close attention to produce both satisfactory welds and assemblies to meet various codes.
    • Must possess the skills and experience to use manual and N/C burning equipment, press brake, saws, torches, various manual, automatic and robotic welding equipment, rolls, shear, ovens, ultra-violet light, various mag equipment, overhead cranes, jib hoists, tow motors, etc.
    • Must have strong blueprint reading and comprehension.
    • ASME code certified welder, GTAW / SMAW preferred.
