    The level and salary of the position will be commensurate with experience.

     

    The Applications Engineer is responsible for technical selection as well as initial commercial preparation of proposals. Through the selection process and preparation of proposals, the Applications Engineer is required to utilize several tools as well as knowledge and understanding of our equipment design to make a proper selection. Interface with inside sources such as Project Engineering, Project Management, Quality Assurance, and Purchasing will be required to support the proper selection and implementation of a project.  Reading and interpreting detailed project specifications is required. The Applications Engineer is responsible for preparing budgets using specified tools and knowledge and understanding of the product being quoted.  Effective and regular communication by phone, e-mail, or meeting with external customers as well as sales managers and internal customers is required.

     

    This would require significant travel to Sparks, NV for 8-12 months of training, and travel to and from Sparks, NV and Jeannette, PA as needed thereafter.  Some travel to international customers.

    Responsibilities

    • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner, so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers and management.

    • Initiate and prepare RFQ’s based on customer’s needs and specifications.
    • Make equipment selections to meet customer requirements and meet the company’s good engineering practices.
    • Interpret and/or utilize internal and external resources to verify specifications and take deviation/exceptions as per the company’s policy or direction from Director of Applications Engineering and Contracts Administration. Cross-functional coordination with other departments may be required to make selections and further review of specifications.
    • Develop preliminary design plans for technical and commercial proposal preparation.
    • Prepare budgets for quotations as required. Account for items used in budgets, and translate requirements into a deliverable scope of supply.
    • Prepare Handover documentation when orders are received including export screening activities and order entry into ERP/MRP system.
    • Maintain communication with internal and external customers, agents, etc. on technical matters.
    • Attending and representing the Company in technical clarification meetings with customers.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • BS Mechanical Engineering degree; other disciplines and relevant experience will be considered.
    • Relevant experience with centrifugal pumps is preferred.
    • Ability to understand and balance inter-relationship between price, performance, delivery, and reliability when selecting/designing a unit.
    • Good verbal and non-verbal communication skills for preparing proposals, conducting meetings, answering sales/customer questions and writing technical papers/articles/procedures.
    • Ability to understand and balance internal cost structure and margin goals when pricing a project.
    • Strong attention to detail in preparation of all documentation.
    • Computer skills including Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, Outlook, Salesforce, and/or Oracle, etc.
