  • Overview

    TRAINEES WILL TRAIN TO THE FULL SCOPE OF THE M-140 AS FOLLOWS:

     

    To lay out, install, repair and tack weld all types and sizes of pipe lines, fittings and fixtures, required in fabricated turbines, compressors, heaters, ejectors, turbochargers, condensers and related equipment using automatic and semiautomatic welding equipment. To layout and install water piping, water cooling systems, vacuum systems, cut to suit air piping and oil drain lines and install oil feeds and gas systems as required for testing of equipment.

    • The training program will consist of training developed to meet the Elliott certification requirements for a M-140 Production Pipefitter. Position will require you to complete hands on and online testing.
    • Formal training currently consists of correspondence courses provide to the trainee, inclusive of an exam that is scored.
    • Trainees who successfully complete the training program will be considered certified to Elliott requirements and will be accepted as an M-140 Production Pipefitter.
    • This is a 3- year training program. Trainees are expected to complete a minimum of one segment of training in each year of the program. Trainees who fail to successfully complete any segments in the allotted time will be removed from the program and returned to their former job in accordance with the provision of the Basic Shop Agreement.

    TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

    Bending, threading and cut-off machines, flame cutting equipment, automatic and semi-automatic welding equipment, electric welding equipment, band saw, drill press, lath, portable power tools, grinder, chain blocks, jib hoist, soldering equipment, pickling tanks, safety equipment, small hand tools, overheard cranes, JGL Manlift, fork lift truck and other material handling equipment, plasma cutter, power notcher, hand power beveller, hand pipe threader, power flare machine and sandblaster, etc.  

     

    MATERIALS

    Used: Various Types and sizes of pipe, tubing, fittings, flanges, braces, meters, sealing and packing compounds, insulating materials, etc.

    Produced: Pipe and tubing assemblies cut, threaded, soldered, fitted, etc., to desired size or shape for turbines, compressors, heaters, ejectors, turbochargers, condensers and related equipment.

    Responsibilities

    To serve as a trainee to work towards the full scope of the M-140 as follows:

    1. Receives instructions from supervision.
    2. Works from work order book, interprets layout and assembly drawings and makes sketches as required.
    3. Selects the proper tools and material to complete the assignment.
    4. Lays out work and calculates dimensions and radii of bends.
    5. Set up and operates bending, threading and cut-off machines, saws, etc., to shape and fabricate pipe for installation on turbines, compressors, heaters, ejectors, turbochargers, condensers and related equipment.
    6. Inspects, repairs, replaces or installs any type of high and low pressure air, water, steam, oil, gas, etc., lines or piping for turbines, compressors, heaters, ejectors, turbochargers, condensers and related equipment.
    7. Makes and seals various types of joints such as expansion, flange, nipple, coupling union, lead wiped, soldered, flared, calked, etc.
    8. Sets up and assembles pip for welding.
    9. Installs meters, gages, gaskets, packing, pipe supports, including pipe bracing for shipments, etc.
    10. Installs various types of pipe insulation and covering as required for packaging for shipment.
    11. Connects up all piping and tubing for apparatus to be tested.
    12. Operates jib hoist as required.
    13. Cleans and pickles pipe as required.
    14. Performs flame cutting as required.
    15. Sets up, fits and tack welds pipe joints and other fitting work as required.
    16. Heats and straightens materials as required.
    17. Lubricates machine as required, wipes and keeps machine, tools and work place clean.
    18. Maintains good housekeeping by keeping tools, material and equipment in proper place.
    19. Reports defective material and equipment to supervision.
    20. Observes all safety rules.
    21. Blacks pipe flanges for shipment.
    22. Operates lathe to cut off and bevel pipe for welding.
    23. Operates overhead crane as required.
    24. Operates fork lift truck and other material handling equipment as required.
    25. Operated JGL Manlift when required by procedure.
    26. Work from bill of material to ensure gauges, transmitter, instrument valve, etc. are the proper components and correct part number for the job.
    27. Hydro testing of fabricated pipe.
    28. Tagging customer connections on all equipment and components.
    29. Uses computer to access process, engineering, material and design specifications and drawings.
    30. Hook up gas tanker trucks.
    31. Locates pipes, fittings, etc/ and stocks in proper location.
