  • Overview

    The primary focus of the position is achieving the Company's business plan for Cash Flow, Sales Volume, Timeliness, Profitability and Customer Satisfaction.  To accomplish this requires:

    • Recognizing that unique problems in hardware, technical requirements and systems are inherent to the machinery we build and the challenge is to control them and still achieve the Business Plan.
    • Develop and Control processes/plans/facilities as necessary to insure cost effective, timely and safe testing of machinery in accordance with various industry standards.
    • Direct a diverse group of highly skilled Engineers, Managers, Planners and craft assembly personnel whose primary responsibility is to resolve problems that would prevent meeting the Business Plan Objectives.
    • Maintain formal and informal lines of communication with key Customers in order to pre-act to their individual or industry wide requirements.
    • Establish and maintain key measurements and systems aimed at controlling costs and schedules.
    • Establish and maintain systems that provide accurate forecasting information.
    • Administer the Capital and Intellectual resources essential to address increasingly complex balance and test programs.

     

    Contact with Others:

    Internal Contacts:  Direct contact with Production Control (manufactured parts), Purchasing (purchased items), Production Managers (in-process parts), Engineering (problem resolution) and Marketing/Sales (test alternatives), Union Leadership/Human Resources (Manpower/Work Rules).  Contacts are on an individual basis as well as through a series of Production planning "committees".

    External Contacts:  Frequent contact with customers and customer representatives.

     

    Travel:   Travel requirements are minimal, domestic or international.

    Responsibilities

    • Establish and direct detailed plan for balancing, assembling, testing and shipping prep that achieves the objectives of the Company Business Plan.
    • Establish and direct a Packaging Division, on-site and worldwide, that supports the Company Business Plan.
    • Maintain Elliott test facilities to include the facilitation of test capabilities.
    • Develop, maintain or procure the physical and intellectual resources necessary to comply with the Engineering and Commercial requirements for balancing, assembly and test of all Industrial and Engineered products business units.
    • Develop and manage expense budgets for all balance and test operating groups.
    • Develop and manage capital budgets for all balance and test operating groups.
    • Develop and manage key indices aimed at measuring and controlling product costs associated with balancing, assembly, test and shipping preparation.
    • Develop and manage forecasting system that provides accurate data on timeliness and margins.
    • Develop and obtain approval for plan to continue development of test and at-speed balance facility improvements to maintain Elliott's image as an industry leader.
    • Prepare/administer salary plan.
    • Monitor/Control compliance with ISO-9000 Standards as well as industry (API, ASME) and specific Customer or Elliott Standards.
    • Manage a team environment with collaboration, team building, and ongoing motivation.

    Qualifications

    • B.S. degree preferred, Engineering field a plus, with a minimum of 10-15 years’ experience with capital equipment.
    • Experience in areas such as design, testing and troubleshooting are essential but a thorough understanding of managing to a P&L and managing the Customer interface are equally important.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical and business objectives clearly and concisely. Must have the ability to motivate and lead a diverse group of subordinates and peers whose combined skills are essential to every successful project.  Must have the ability to establish short and long term goals and communication skills that keep entire work force focused on meeting key objectives.
    • Technical skills to include a background managing capital projects including all regulatory and contractual requirements.
    • Non-technical skills required are: planning and scheduling, cost accounting, negotiation, financial (cash flow, absorption, expense control).
    • Must have good written and oral communication skills. Additionally, must have the ability to make formal and informal presentations to customers, senior management, peers and subordinates on a regular basis.
