  • Overview

    The position level and salary will be commensurate with experience.

     

    This Test Engineer position will primarily be responsible for conducting the at-speed rotor balance testing within the at-speed balance facility. The Test Engineer provides technical expertise relevant to all aspects of testing custom engineered turbomachinery including centrifugal and axial compressors, steam turbines and hot gas expanders.  The Test Engineer evaluates and defines test setup parameters, conducts actual testing and analyzes / interprets the data produced during testing.

    Responsibilities

    • Plan and provide direction to the Rotor Manufacturing Engineer or Service Center Coordinator to design and procure any tooling needed to conduct the at-speed rotor balancing.
    • Prepare at-speed rotor balancing procedures and reports for issuance to customers.
    • Perform calculations necessary for development of test setup configuration parameters and reduction of acquired test data.
    • Prepare testing procedures and final test reports for issuance to customers.
    • Develop specific test setup configuration instructions for shop and drafting personnel.
    • Responsible for final evaluation of test setup construction and performing pre-test instrumentation and data acquisition system checks.
    • Troubleshoot technical issues encountered during setup construction and operational phases of test.
    • Provide guidance to shop personnel during setup construction and operational phases of test.
    • Size and select compressible fluid control valves, flow orifices, flow nozzles, heat exchangers and other equipment required for test setup installations.
    • Support the generation of quotations for testing of prospective new turbomachinery equipment sales.
    • Evaluate the need for capital acquisitions to enhance and / or maintain testing capabilities.
    • Provide assistance and consultation to other areas of business such as application, project and product engineering, manufacturing operations, research and development, as well as to other areas of management as necessary.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or other relevant discipline. Mechanical Engineering preferred.
    • Understanding of thermodynamic and aerodynamic concepts as related to the performance of turbomachinery including heat transfer, gas properties, efficiency, head, work, etc.
    • Understanding of rotor dynamics theory and application of such for the purpose of machinery diagnostics.
    • Understanding of industry related standards such as: API 617, API 612, API 687, API 684, ASME PTC’s etc.
    • Experience working within the turbomachinery / rotating equipment field.
