  • Overview

    The principal activities of the job involve collecting, analyzing, consolidating, and communicating product and technical information regarding assigned Turbine apparatus lines.

     

    Estimated 25% domestic and international travel.

     

    The position level and salary will be commensurate with experience.

    Responsibilities

    • Executes service engineering assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, computer programs and criteria which may involve independent action and decision.
    • Assists Field Service Engineers in resolving technical matters or developing repair procedures pertaining to installation, start-up, operation, repair and maintenance problems.
    • Can make personal visitations to customers and equipment installations to obtain first-hand information when troubles exist. Responsible for assisting more senior engineers in investigating, developing, presenting, and implementing corrective steps.
    • Operate vibration diagnostic equipment for purpose of analyzing and documenting field vibration problems, consulting with others to develop corrective action and issuing formal reports.
    • Collaborates with other departments to insure prompt and effective problem-solving of reported field troubles for assigned product line.
    • Performs liaison functions with other engineering departments on the specification, manufacturing, assembly, material quality, testing, repair, performance and operation, for assigned product(s). Includes consulting with field service, service parts, and service repair on field trouble jobs, defective parts, rebuilds, rework, etc., and to rerate group on new parts orders, engineering studies and design changes.
    • Responsible for developing and conducting assigned string field performance test under supervision of Senior Service Engineer, Service Engineer V or Engineering Specialist.
    • Initiate drafting requests and approve layout and detail drawings relating to field problems and service order requests.
    • Initiates Service Authorizations for record change parts required on trouble jobs and informs supervisor of status.
    • Reviews Serviceman's Reports for re-occurring and possible resolution of field problems.
    • Investigates, collects, consolidates and composes reports on product reliability and issues Product Trouble Reports on assigned products.
    • Prepares and reviews assigned write-ups for technical manuals.
    • Prepares memos, reports, Service Engineering Bulletins or Technical Service Memorandums on assigned subjects for purpose of keeping field service / sales current on developments.
    • Assists in developing and / or presenting assigned programs for training. Programs may be for Elliott personnel or customer personnel either in the field or at headquarters.
    • Makes man-hour estimates of time required to complete assignments and submits them for priority, cost and scheduling purposes.
    • Assist Senior Engineers in meeting group objectives.
    • Responsible for generating and submitting in writing ideas to improve Elliott products, their costs, service, application and sale as well as improved Elliott productivity.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) plus a minimum of three years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Strong mechanical and thermodynamic aptitude for rotating machinery.
    • Ability to read and understand drawings, technical documentation, blueprints, layouts and schedules.
    • Ability to write technical documents.
    • Knowledge of electrical systems.
    • Flexibility to cope with wide variety of problems, customers and site conditions. 
    • Must be willing to work in camps, on platforms and in non-industrialized countries in various weather conditions.
    • Good communication skills. Profound knowledge of the English language, verbal and written.
    • Computer skills – Microsoft Word, Excel, Projects; Lotus Notes helpful.
    • Basic Supervisory Skills.
    • Must be capable of representing Elliott Company in a positive manner.
