  • Overview

    The Traffic Manager Develops and maintains transportation and distribution procedures to maximize delivery efficiency. Selects appropriate delivery methods to minimize delivery costs and maximize customer satisfaction. Analyzes, handles, and reviews loss and damage claims caused by accidents. Works to optimize distribution systems through detailed planning, coordination and integration of activities such as transportation, inventory, warehousing, material handling, shipping, receiving, and information systems. Planning, achieving, and maintaining a high level of on-time delivery and customer service for both internal and external customers is vital to this position. This is a fast paced job dealing with all types of personnel and equipment, multiple locations and facilities, as well as domestic and international orders and customers.


    The Traffic Manager is also expected to ensure compliance with the Department Operations Manual and all applicable Work Instructions in support of Elliott Safety, Quality and ISO requirements.


    • Manages the operational aspects of ongoing transportation and storage requirements, serves as a liaison between project management, planning, project team, supply chain, and management.
    • Manage annual freight costs of $3 million.
    • This position includes departmental budget responsibility.
    • Supervise import and export of all modes of transportation including air and ocean freight forwarding, global warehousing, transportation, logistics, surface transportation and supply chain solutions.
    • Ensure customer goods move from production through the supply chain to the end user.
    • Lead all distribution and transportation planning and strategic activities.
    • Utilize services of less-than-truckload carriers and air-forwarders to handle fulfillment shipments.
    • Work with commercial operations to provide accurate shipping costs for the quoting process.                   
    • Review expected receipts reports and inbound and outbound shipping logs to prioritize and expedite items as necessary
    • Work with buyers and other scheduling functions in coordinating and executing shipments with complex customer requirements.
    • Monitor and report status of outbound and inbound transportation and deliveries


    BS Degree required, although equivalent experience will be considered.  The Traffic Manager must possess five years’ experience in an operational environment with strengths in transportation, negotiation, warehousing and distribution.


    • Extensive experience in operations / supply chain roles such as logistics, warehousing, transportation, distribution.
    • Excellent communication skills for interaction with personnel from many other departments and locations worldwide.
    • Knowledge of the Elliott product lines, equipment outline drawings, systems, and processes is preferred.
    • Knowledge of current regulations, including tariffs, hazardous materials, freight classifications, import/export compliance
    • Knowledge of planning / scheduling and how it interacts with inventory and impacts on-time shipments.
    • Excellent Computer skills and knowledge of associated software systems and processes. 
    • Inventory management skills.
    • Extensive experience and knowledge of all modes of transport, truck, barge, ocean, rail, air, multi- modal.
    • Excellent knowledge of  INCO terms and contract requirements
