  • Overview

    To set-up and operate one or more CNC/MDI Lathes and/or grinders in the MDl/CNC and manual modes of operation to perform all machining and gaging functions available on the machines.


    1. Receives instructions from supervisor.
    2. Receives raw material, work order book, drawing and tools as machines.
    3. Verifies that raw material, drawing and tooling are in agreement with the work order book.
    4. Works from detailed drawings and work order book.
    5. Determines an efficient machining procedure to be used in performing the required operations.
    6. Calculates the required data dimensional input from the drawing.
    7. Selects the correct tooling.
    8. Suggests and assists in designing new tooling as required.
    9. Sets up machines, files, installs and aligns as required.
    10. Inputs machining data, operation data and variable macro data as required.
    11. Verifies that the data input into the controls is correct to the drawing.
    12. Completes set up data sheets, record programs and other pertinent data as required.
    13. Makes adjustments to the machining cycle as required to make parts to drawing.
    14. Verifies the accuracy of measuring devices as required.
    15. Completes the machining of all required operations.
    16. Checks part with measuring devices.
    17. Reports defective material, parts and equipment to supervisor.
    18. Adjusts, changes, and grinds tools as required.
    19. Deburrs as required. Performs finish deburring operations and stamps or stencils identification number on parts.
    20. Places part in tote pan, bin or on pallet.
    21. Reports production count, time and identifying data by use of the data collection machines.
    22. Stores part machining-cycle data on punch tape, floppy disk, DNC System or retains in memory as instructed.
    23. Adjusts changes and dresses grinding wheel as required.
    24. Assemble and disassemble as required for machining.
    25. Performs material handling functions as required.
    26. Simultaneously operates two or more machines and performs other duties simultaneously to machining operations.
    27. Edits numerical control programs using machine control and records data or changes on manuscript and set-up data sheets as required.
    28. Lubricates machine as required, wipes and keeps machines, tools and work place clean.
    29. Maintains good housekeeping by keeping tools, material and equipment in proper place.
    30. Works safely and observes all safety rules.
    31. Performs routine preventive maintenance on machine
    32. May also perform other machining functions on these turning centers in order to fully utilize the machine's capabilities.
