  • Overview

    To perform NDE and inspection functions on raw material, parts and assemblies to ensure that material is within prescribe specifications in all shop locations. This position will train to the full scope of the M-402 NDE Shop Inspector, meeting the qualification listed to move to the M-402 as described below.  

     

    Tools and Equipment

    Various visual, vision, functional, mechanical and electrical/electronic inspection equipment. NDT equipment for dye penetrant inspection, magnetic particle inspection, ultrasonic inspection, PMI alloy analyzer inspection, hardness testing, etc. Material cleaning equipment (such as hand grinders, wire brush, etc.) fork lift, jeep, crane and other required material handling equipment. Cameras, computer, computer interface equipment and other electrical, electronic equipment as it relates to inspections, work scheduling and/or reports. Customer/contractual documentation, BMS procedures, Shop Practices and Material Specifications as required.

    Responsibilities

    This is a trainee position. The person in this role will train to become qualified to do all duties of the M-402 NDE Inspector as follows:

    1. Reads and interprets manual or electronic work orders, assembly and detail drawings, quality plans, special instructions, inspection, process, material and welding specifications, standard procedure instructions, bill of material, purchase orders, shipping papers, and other miscellaneous procedures and documents as required or directed. Uses shop mathematics.
    2. Obtains/uses necessary tooling, gaging, fixtures or other inspection tools/equipment and makes set-ups, for inspecting raw materials, parts and assemblies for conformance to drawing’s, specification or other documented requirement. Performs first piece inspection, layout inspection, 100% inspection, final piece inspection, sub-assembly (including piping, pipe assemblies, sub-outs, burning operations, tack weld, finish weld, etc.) inspection finished assembly inspection, NDE inspection, PMI inspection or patrols operations following established inspection procedures or sampling plans as directed. Checks and records alignment and clearances of sub-assemblies and assemblies as directed.
    3. Maintains records as prescribed in procedures including collecting and recording specific data for analytical purposes either in a manual or electronica format as directed.
    4. Identifies, describes and generates sketches (showing location of indications) for non-conformances (NCR’s), process/product improvement activities and upon Elliott supervision/engineering request. Generated detailed inspection quality reports as required. Notifies the responsible department when nonconformance is identified. Documents and identifies to supervisor any irregularities in procedures or problems not covered in the standard procedure, specifications and instructions.
    5. Works with customer representative while witnessing inspection and tests and reviewing documentation. Conducts source inspections at vendors/suppliers as directed by management.
    6. Disassembles, assemblies, stamps, grinds and cleans items as required for testing.
    7. Operates crane, fork lift truck and other material handling equipment as required.
    8. Performs Level II certified PT, MT, and UT nondestructive examinations and PMI testing on all material assemblies as required. Generates detailed reports as required.
    9. Maintains good housekeeping by keeping tools, materials and equipment clean, protected and in proper place. Keeps respective work area clean. Observes all plant and safety rules.

    Training hours must meet all of the following requirements:

    NDE minimum experience house in each method: PT210, MT 280, UT 840

    NDE total experience hours: PT 400, MT 539, UT 1600

    NDE Experience time shall be based on the actual hours worked in each specific method.

    NDE experience shall be documented by method and by hour with supervisor and Level III approval.

    After experience hours are attained, the trainee must pass a General, Specific and Practical examination in each NDE method administered by a Certified Level III.
