  • Overview

    To set up and operate one or more MDI/CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers and perform drilling, tapping, reaming, slot sawing, deburring, tool setting, etc., on various parts processed in the YR Factory.

     

    Tools and Equipment: Various MDI/CNC vertical and horizontal machinist centers, tap disintegrator, small shot blast. Measuring devices such as micrometers, indicators, calipers, gages, scales, etc. Set-up equipment including fixtures, clamps, blocks, templates, tool setting equipment, tapes, manuscripts, small hand tools, layout equipment, etc. Miscellaneous equipment including verberator, fork trucks, cranes, various lifting equipment and miscellaneous material handling equipment.

     

    Materials: Various ferrous and non-ferrous materials for manufacture of component parts of steam turbines, turbochargers, etc., thread lubricants, air, coolant, lubricating oils, cleaning fluids, sealing compounds, etc.

    Responsibilities

    1. Receives detailed instructions from supervision.
    2. Obtains raw materials/parts from stock, drawings, tools, fixtures, templates, targets and other materials as required.
    3. Loads and unloads materials as required
    4. Works from and interprets prints, drawings, work lists, work order books, short form manuscripts, tool set-up sheets and bills of materials.
    5. Verifies that materials, drawings, route sheets and tooling are in agreement with the work order book.
    6. Sets up machines, monitors performance and makes adjustments as required.
    7. Edits numerical control programs using machine control and records data or changes on manuscript and set-up data sheets as required. Inserts program into machine, operates machine manually or presses proper buttons to initiate program controlled machine cycle. Produces part programs using MDI Control.
    8. Performs assembly and disassembly operations installing appropriate hardware as required on component parts.
    9. Loads, locates parts on fixture and/or pallet and places on machine tool. Unloads fixtures and/or pallets after machining operation.
    10. Adjusts, changes, sharpens or dresses tools as required. Uses various tool setting equipment to preset and change tooling as required.
    11. Deburrs as required. Performs finish deburring operations independently and simultaneously with machining operations and stamps or stencils parts for identification purposes.
    12. Simultaneously operates two or more machines and performs other duties simultaneously to machining operations.
    13. Cleans, dries and preserves materials or parts after machining operations as required.
    14. Performs material handling functions using hoists, overhead cranes, fork lift trucks, etc., performing the necessary hooking and unhooking, driving, etc., as required.
    15. Reports production count, time and identifying data as required.
    16. Performs routine preventative maintenance on machine and fills out check list as required.
    17. Maintains good housekeeping and lubricates as required.
    18. Reports defective parts, material and equipment to supervision.
    19. Performs the required machining or processing operations and verifies that the operation is complete.
    20. Verifies accuracy of measuring instruments using calibrated standards and using measuring instruments with current calibration.
    21. Places parts or material in tote pans, bins or on pallets as required.
    22. Stores and retrieves part machining cycle data on punch tape, floppy disk, DNC System or retains in memory as required.
    23. Removes chips from machine to proper chip hopper.
    24. Drains and adds replacement oils and coolants to machine reservoirs.
    25. Checks motor, brakes, steering, horn, etc., on motorized material handling equipment to ensure proper and safe operation.
    26. Follows safe work practices and observes all safety rules.
    27. May also perform other turning functions on these machining centers in order to fully utilize the machine’s capabilities.

    Qualifications
