  • Overview

    To supervise, plan, direct, and control the daily activities of indirect hourly (skilled trades) employees. The supervisor is responsible to oversee all activities of the direct reports in respect to their performance of assigned tasks across the assigned shift.   Creates and executes daily work plans based on department priorities to ensure schedule adherence.   Supports the development and implementation of continuous improvement activities related to all plant operations including, but not limited to, establishing best practices, standard work instructions, safety culture and habits, and good housekeeping techniques.


    This position is responsible for the operations and activities anywhere in the physical plant, including offices, and related equipment and grounds.


    Will occasionally also provide recommendations to all departments of the Jeannette site; to the internal safety & environmental departments; to outside contractors and suppliers; and to public utilities and municipal jurisdictions. The incumbent will ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws, statutes and codes and coordinating with appropriate authorities.


    Will contract with and oversee the activities of various contractors and consultants for the fulfillment of maintenance responsibilities.


    Shift:  First shift, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm with overtime as needed.



    • Responsible for all activities pertaining to maintenance departmental operations within the group.
    • Devise motivational and developmental procedures for all subordinates to perform their assigned duties to the best of their abilities in a manner consistent with company goals.
    • Take necessary action to insure that work assignments are completed at the lowest possible cost and in the shortest possible time with the highest possible quality.
    • Devise appropriate action plans to resolve labor problems fairly and continue to develop amicable union - management relationship.
    • Administers the Labor Contract and Company rules and policies.
    • Participates in development of plant layout changes.
    • Administers a program of good housekeeping in all areas of responsibility, monitors safety problems and fosters a work safe environment.
    • Participates in the hiring or discharging of personnel or in disciplinary procedures with bargaining personnel.
    • Responsible for preparing and implementing employee training programs.
    • Related program coordination and liaison with all other departments for the procurement and maintenance of all real property, production equipment and utilities services.
    • Process work requests, prepare project cost estimates, plan and schedule related work and procure required materials and parts.
    • Solicit, prepare and administer appropriate contracts with suppliers and contractors.
    • Assure that direct reports are adequately trained to perform their duties at the highest level of proficiency.
    • Evaluate and select construction contractors.
    • Operate and maintain all site utility systems and equipment.
    • Comply with all applicable Federal, State and Local codes, statutes and regulations.
    • Install and maintain all utility systems and components for electricity, water, steam, oil, compressor air and natural gas. Perform periodic testing of utility systems to insure reliability.



    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Previous maintenance supervisory experience is desired.
    • Must possess solid leadership skills and have demonstrated development of personnel through coaching and training.
    • Detailed working knowledge of shop practices, repair, safety, personnel, and administrative procedures.
    • Must have obtained general working knowledge and experience in the following areas: Electrical and Mechanical Systems; Civil and Structural Systems; Maintenance; Financial Evaluation & Justification; Administration & Supervision; and related Environmental, Safety and Health.
    • Technical ability to make decisions and direct assigned personnel to perform required assignments.
    • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, being able to clearly communicate at all levels within the organization on a technical and non-technical basis. Presentation skills are helpful to communicate conceptual plans, cost/benefits and follow-up results of projects.  Computer skills are required in Microsoft Office applications and overall general working knowledge of other programs.
